GPU-Friendly Marching Cubes for Visualizing Translucent Isosurfaces Marching cubes has long been employed as a standard indirect volume rendering approach to extract isosurfaces from 3D volumetric data. This paper presents a GPU-friendly MC implementation. Besides the cell indexing, we propose to calculate vertex and normal interpolations by precomputing the expensive equations and looking up these values during runtime. Upon a commodity GPU, our implementation can rapidly extract isosurfaces from a highresolution volume and render the result. With the proposed parallel marching cubes algorithm, we can naturally generate layerstructured triangles, which facilitate the visibility-correct visualization of multiple-layer translucent isosurfaces without performing computational expensive sorting. The algorithm extracts and draws triangles, in a layer by layer fashion, from back to front. With the painter’s algorithm, the visibility of multi-layer translucent isosurfaces is resolved naturally.
Visualization of Chinese Visible Human The first Chinese Visible Human data set was collected by the Chinese Visible Human Project Team from Third Military Medical University in Chongqing in October 2002. It consists of 2518 serial cross sections of a 35 year old male died due to non-organic disease. The resolution of each sectioned image is 3072 x 2048 and the total datum set is about 91 GB. more..
Virtual Anatomy The Chinese Visible Human Project research team from The Third Military Medical University has successfully collected the first Chinese Visible Human data set in October 2002. Including the original American Visible Human and Visible Korean Human, there are total three reported visible human datasets in the world. more..
